Between 1/1/2023 – 3/1/2023, there were roughly 382+ Strike 3 Holdings lawsuits filed in federal courts (US District Courts) across the US.
They have focused their lawsuits on the US District Courts (the federal courts) in the following states:
- California (specifically, the Northern District of California),
- Connecticut,
- District of Columbia,
- Florida,
- Hawaii,
- Illinois,
- Maryland,
- Massachusetts,
- Michigan,
- New Jersey,
- New York,
- Pennsylvania,
- Tennessee,
- Texas, and
- Virginia.
The purpose of this article is to analyze where Strike 3 Holdings, LLC plaintiff attorneys have filed their copyright infringement lawsuits in 2023. (So far, in this article we have tracked them only up to 3/1/2023). And, if we can, to understand the pattern of why they have filed in these locations.
CHANCES ARE — if you have found this article, you are likely a defendant (or an accused John Doe defendant) in one of these cases. [Because I list specific case information, I did not post this article anywhere, and it is not visible from my website*]
You should know:
1) that you are NOT alone. Through this article, you can see all the OTHER filings in your federal court, and

* WHY I DIDN’T POST THIS ARTICLE ANYWHERE: For fun, you might ask yourself:
QUESTION: *WHY* didn’t I post this article?
ANSWER: In this article, I have data that I have researched and shared with you. This data inlcudes ALL of Strike 3 Holdings lawsuits filed across the US from 1/1/2023 – 3/1/2023.
[Unfortunately, some other attorneys (you probably have seen their websites) like to “cut-and-paste” the proprietary data that you’ll see here into their websites.
NOTE: Especially in the area below with the “plus / +” symbol, you will see all of the actual case data, organized, sorted, and formatted.
It’s a funny piracy problem that I (as a piracy defense attorney) face, so I turned off the “right click” copy-and-paste feature.] [Background (for my notes — please feel free to skip these next few paragraphs): I have been tracking Strike 3’s copyright infringement claims in their federal lawsuits in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Their lawsuits assert that the internet service provider (ISP) account holder illegally downloaded their adult films.
Since the federal copyright legal system allows Strike 3’s attorneys to file thousands of lawsuits asserting the infringement of copyright laws, the copyright holder is justified in filing many lawsuits — all copyright infringement cases — the lawsuits claiming that the accused defendant did ignore the copyright rights of the owner of the movies without considering their financial interest in those movies.
Thinking there was no copyright defense, Strike 3 Holdings lawsuits filed in Florida and other states asked the courts to force the ISP (e.g., Comcast) to share the name and address of the account holder. As soon as the account holders receive a subpoena, the ISP subpoena advises them to file a motion to quash the subpoena. The problem is that a motion to quash is a poor legal defense, as any lawyer would know.]
OBSERVATION #1: FLOODING OF STRIKE 3 HOLDINGS LLC COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT LAWSUITS IN MULTIPLE FEDERAL COURTS.
I have researched the Strike 3 Holdings lawsuits many times before. I expected *NOT* to see many cases filed in early-2023.
To my surprise, it seemed that as soon as 2023 came around, Strike 3 Holdings flooded the courts. They filed 380+ lawsuits. Each lawsuit claims copyright infringement statutory damages of $150,000 against each downloader.

OBSERVATION #2: “SHOTGUN” APPROACH IN CHOOSING WHERE TO FILE.
Strike 3 Holdings lawsuits often comprised a pattern of filing only in certain federal courts (think, “forum selection”). This time, it appears as if they filed their 2023 cases in a “shotgun” fashion.
If you want to see the actual end-of-February Strike 3 Holdings lawsuits (2023), I am pasting them below:
Looking at the data, I can see that they have focused their lawsuits in these states:
- California,
- New York
- New Jersey, and
- Texas
These states are the locations of prominent Strike 3 Holdings LLC attorneys:
- Lincoln Bandlow,
- John Atkin,
- Jacqueline James, and more recently,
- Paul Beik
So it is natural that there should be many filings in those federal courts*.
* I won’t discount that in most of these states, there *are* multiple federal court districts. For example:
- California NORTHERN District Court,
- California SOUTHERN District Court,
- New York EASTERN District Court,
- New York WESTERN District Court… and so on.
So I do acknowledge that it makes sense that these states will have more filings than the others. But again, with Strike 3 Holdings, LLC, there is usually a REASON for “why file here, why NOT file there.”
I understand why Strike 3 Holdings, LLC should file where they have attorneys who work for them. It only makes sense that if you have an attorney (e.g., Paul Beik) in Texas, then he should file cases in Texas.
What is confusing to me is WHY they would file cases in so many OTHER districts where they do NOT yet have a “presence.”
For example, why file:
- 6 cases in Connecticut; <– Jackie James (NY) usually files these, but CT is nowhere near NY.
- 3 cases in DC;
- 5 cases in Hawaii; <– They do have a new attorney here (Christian L. Kamau of Virtuesq LLC), so this one makes sense — they are “trailblazing” their way into the Hawaii federal court one small step at a time.
- 5 cases in Tennessee, etc.
It almost feels as if they are still testing the waters in those courts, but these courts (maybe except for DC and Hawaii [which was a “new” federal court choice for them last year in 2022]) don’t seem to have an underlying STRATEGY or PURPOSE as to why they would scatter cases in so many states and “fight” cases on so many fronts.
From a strategy point of view, it seems like a bad idea to file Strike 3 Holdings lawsuits in so many jurisdictions unless maybe they are trying to remind each of those courts that they still exist. [But that is nothing new — I wrote an article last year explaining why I thought the Strike 3 Holdings lawsuits would never go away.]
What I don’t see with these cases is a coherent STRATEGY, and that bothers me.

[ NEWS: IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE REASON THEY ARE SENDING THE STRIKE 3 HOLDINGS, LLC SUBPOENA IS TO SCARE DEFENDANTS (MANY IN CALIFORNIA) TO SETTLE WITH STRIKE 3 HOLDINGS. THE THREAT IS THAT IF THEY DO NOT SETTLE, THEY WILL HAVE A PUBLIC SHAMING BY HAVING TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS OF DEFENDING THEMSELVES IN LITIGATION.]
SUMMARY:
In sum, I see a large number of new filings. I see the “shotgun” pattern in how they filed a handful of cases in each state. What I don’t see here is a coherent STRATEGY.
Our Cashman Law Firm PLLC has focused our practice since 2010 on pre-trial strategies in federal courts across the US. Specifically, we have been working on the evolving mass-BitTorrent lawsuits. It is my job to notice trends. This month, I see how and where Strike 3 Holdings, LLC is filing their lawsuits. I also see exactly how many cases they have filed in each federal court. The reasons behind 1) why these courts and 2) what their strategy is has [for the moment] confused me.
